The exit strategy that I have identified with through the entire process has not changed. I have always wanted to build the business, work in at long as I need to, slowly incorporating my children into the running of the business, with passing it down to them as the ultimate plan of succession.
2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy?
This business has come from the love of things I love to do, and have shared with my family throughout their lives. Being a family centered person, I would naturally want them to reap the benefits of business that they helped create.
3) How do you think your exit strategy has influenced the other decisions you've made in your concept? For instance, has it influenced how you have identified an opportunity? Has it influenced your growth intentions or how you plan to acquire and use resources?
This exit strategy has effected in the business decisions that I have made. They have influenced the type of growth that we are seeking. Everything is for the long term, with sustained growth being the main focus. Since we are not looking to sell the business for a profit, opportunities that are invested in have to create long term value. I am not looking to mortgage the future for a short term gain in hopes of selling for a profit. I am looking to build consistent revenues that will keep the business flourishing. This outlook will influence how I evaluate each future growth opportunity.

Hello Jim,
ReplyDeleteI think that the passing down of the business really shows how much you love what you are doing that you hope to keep it in the family as long as possible. I actually know someone who has done just that with his kids. Even though he is not the owner of his own business, it works out that he is able to get them into it and continue in the family name. I really hope that you ae able to get everything out of your business that you hope! If you care to read my blog, the link is http://derekfoster321.blogspot.com/2016/04/week-13-my-exit-strategy.html
Jim it is a very honorable deed to pass your business onto your family. I feel like this is the best of both worlds. Once you retire you know the company will be in the hands of someone similar to you that you trust. This way the business will always be something you can be proud of and agree with the overall decisions of.
